Motor Lublin is on the verge of appointing a new sporting director. Head coach Mariusz Misiura confirmed on Wednesday that the club is in advanced talks with two or three candidates, with a decision expected in the coming days.

Misiura, who had spoken with president Zbigniew Jakubas earlier that day, stated that everything is heading towards a new sporting director joining the club soon. President Jakubas is personally leading negotiations with the selected group of candidates. The club has been without a sporting director since September 30 last year following the departure of Veljko Nikitovic.

Talks with Goncalo Feio

Coach Misiura revealed he has held three long conversations with Goncalo Feio about the role over the last two to three weeks. Feio, who has recently assisted Motor with transfer matters, was considered in the context of a candidate he had previously worked with. Misiura expressed hope that Feio would start work soon but stressed that the final decision is not his. The Portuguese specialist was close to taking a job abroad but ultimately did not decide.

Context and urgency

The urgency of the appointment stems from the club's difficult league position. Motor Lublin sits 14th in the Ekstraklasa with just 9 points from ten matches. Their next opponent is Slask Wroclaw, whom they drew 0-0 with earlier in the season.

Misiura emphasized the professional environment at the club and the need for direct sporting director involvement in recruitment. This week, the club conducted an analysis of four players with future transfer windows in mind. The coach noted that in transfer matters, he prefers working with a sporting director and direct contact with players, avoiding talks with agents on certain issues. The club also needs to consider players' physical profiles to avoid set-piece problems, as seen in matches against Legia and Radomiak.

The new sporting director is expected to be announced within the next few days. This will be a key move for the club ahead of the winter transfer window, especially following a recent 3-2 win over Radomiak that ended a run of poorer results.
