Motor Lublin are close to appointing a new sporting director, with Dariusz Sztylka emerging as the leading candidate. The club has been operating without a permanent sporting chief since terminating the contract of Veljko Nikitovici at the end of September 2026.

Negotiations with the 48-year-old Sztylka, currently employed by second-tier side Odra Opole, are in the final stages. The club's president and owner are in talks with two or three candidates, but the former Motor player is the frontrunner. "Talks on this matter are ongoing and the issue is practically at the finish line," said coach Mariusz Misiura. Sztylka's contract with Odra Opole runs until 2028, meaning any move would require a compensation fee.

Candidate profile

Dariusz Sztylka brings extensive experience from his previous roles as sporting director at Śląsk Wrocław and Wisła Płock. It was at Płock where he worked with Motor's current coach, Mariusz Misiura, to secure promotion to the Ekstraklasa. His return to Lublin would carry symbolic weight, strengthening the club's identity. The sporting director role is seen as very important yet difficult to fill due to a limited market of qualified candidates.

The club is preparing for the winter transfer window despite the vacancy, with scouting efforts led by Paweł Belina. Young players like Posmyk and Gregorski are beginning to break through in the first team, while summer signings are expected to contribute now and in the future. Motor Lublin currently sit 12th in the Ekstraklasa with 12 points from 11 games, having beaten Śląsk Wrocław 3-2 at home on Saturday. That victory ended a poor run of form and gave the team breathing room in the battle to avoid relegation.

A final decision on the new director is expected before the team's next league fixture. Motor Lublin host Zagłębie Lubin at home this Friday, October 23.
